I have the home and student version and do not want to subscribe, but it is inoperable without accepting a one month trial of 365. How do I get rid of 365? If you start a Microsoft Office 2016 program and are presented with the error 'The application can't start because AppVIsvSubsystems32.dll is missing from your computer' there are a couple of easy things you can do to try and fix that issue.
Online repair
The first thing to try is a repair of Office. It usually just takes a few minutes. The exact steps will vary slightly depending upon your operating system but the basic process is as follows:

Choose Uninstall a program.
Find Microsoft Office on your program list and click on it.
Choose Change from the toolbar at the top of the program list.
In the dialog box that appears choose Quick Repair and then click the Repair button.
When Quick Repair completes, try and launch the Office program that was giving you the error. If you're still getting the error, repeat the steps above but choose Online Repair this time.
Note: For the Online Repair you will need to have an active Internet connection.

At the bottom of the browser window, select Run to launch the SetupProd_OffScrub.exe.

Firefox
In the pop-up window, select Save File.
Next, from the upper-right of the FireFox browser window, select the downloads arrow and then select SetupProd_OffScrub.exe.
Select the version you want to uninstall, and then select Next.
Follow through the remaining screens and when prompted, restart your computer.
After you restart your computer, the uninstall tool automatically re-opens to complete the final step of the uninstall process. Follow the remaining prompts.
Select the steps for the version of Office you want to install or reinstall. Close the uninstall tool.

Download and install Office 2016 for Mac
From your Mac, sign in to Office 365 operated by 21Vianet with your work or school account.
Go to Settings > Office 365 Settings > Software.
On the Software page, under Install Office 2016 for Mac, select Install to begin downloading the installer package.
Once the download has completed, open Finder, go to Downloads, and double-click Microsoft_Office_2016_Installer.pkg.
On the first installation screen, select Continue to begin the installation process.
Enter your Mac login password to complete the installation.

After Office 2016 for Mac is installed, Word 2016 for Mac opens so you can activate Office and confirm your subscription. You should only have to do this once.

Review the Word 2016 for Mac What's New screen, and then select Get started.
On the Sign in to Activate Office screen, select Sign In, and then enter your work or school account.
After you sign in, you may see an alert asking for permission to access the Microsoft identity stored in your keychain. Select Allow or Always Allow to continue.
On the next screen, choose an appearance for your Office installation, select Continue, and then select the Start Using Word button to open the app and complete the Office 2016 for Mac activation.
